Tinnitus Treatment: What You Should Know
Welcome to my blog on Tinnitus Treatment.
Ringing in the ears
This blog is a collection of tinnitus related resources, news, discussions and treatment methods. Notice that I didn’t mention “cures”, as there are currently no known cures.
In fact, to this day, I am still suffering from Tinnitus since I was first diagnosed about 11 months ago. I should say that the most painful part of the tinnitus journey is over. The ringing ear is still here and I know for sure it will linger within till the end.
The major difference is that now I have accepted my condition and has moved on, learning how to deal, manage and cope with it.
If you are suffering from tinnitus, do not despair or fret. It’s not the end of the world. I’ve tamed the beast, and I’m sure you are equally, if not more, capable.
Confusions, Frustrations and Self-denial
In my case, diagnosis came too late. There are early symptoms and warning signs that I did not pay attention. All it took was a New Year Eve party in December 2008 to unleash it. That’s the triggering point. But sadly, I did not pay enough attention to the early tell-tale signs and the usual “yeah, it’ll go away”, “I’ll be fine” excuses seem to be the norm. Always listen to your body. I did not and I paid the price. I may not have prevented its coming but I could have delayed it.
Dealing with tinnitus isn’t easy. The high pitch ring tone is forever in the ears. Why me? Why now? There will be lots of unanswered questions. Unfortunately, tinnitus also bring forth other aliments.
Getting to sleeping is one of those problems.
Quality sleep will be a forgotten luxury with tinnitus. Falling asleep is a chore and ironically, it is the “sound of silence” that kept me awake – the same sound we hear when the ears are covered, but only louder. Sleep deprivation will bring about other worries, such as anxiety, restlessness that lower body immunity to other illnesses. One tiny viral infection is enough to wear me down.
And many more… I’ve seen and read about many others whose tinnitus turns chronic, so much so they have to quit their jobs and eventually, destroy their lives. Don’t let this happen to you. Tinnitus is incurable but there are treatments options available that can relieve tinnitus. Sound masking techniques can now be used to help gain better sleep for sufferers.
My journey with tinnitus isn’t smooth sailing and yes I did suffer for the most of those 11 months. I know it’s going to be a roller-coastal ride till the end but I am confident that I will emerge winning.
